Michael told the paper that his happiest years were spent in Mount Waddy, and that the foundation he received at home, at school and at church there shaped the rest of his life. At 15 he moved to Kingston, then attended catering school and joined Carnival Cruise Lines before settling in the United States, where he started his own third-party logistics and contract manufacturing company.

In its first stage, the Foundation set out to support the school and to help two students with tuition, transportation, books and other necessities. Michael also described plans for a farming project to give community members a source of income.
Retired educator Frances Steer, Michael’s former teacher and former acting principal of Mount Waddy Primary, and principal Inez Hawthorne both welcomed the Foundation. Mrs Hawthorne said it would help the school with costs such as transport and lunch that many parents cannot cover.
